About the Episode:
In today’s episode, we’re talking to Brian Dean, the SEO and content marketing guru behind the massively popular blog, Backlinko, where he teaches more than 3 Million yearly readers how to create and optimize content in order to rank well in search engines.
Hailed as a top blogger to follow by Forbes, and called an SEO genius by Entrepreneur Magazine, Brian has been in the world of content and SEO for a decade now. What originally began with his own misadventures into blogging for a few years after leaving graduate school, gradually became Brian’s personal crash course in learning what it takes to consistently engineer viral content.
That lead him to start an SEO agency, where he’s since gone on to help marketers at companies like Apple, Disney, IBM, and Amazon—to create content that stands out from the crowd.
Today, Brian’s blog reaches nearly 100,000 email subscribers, he regularly releases in-depth video content to more than 170,000 YouTube subscribers and has over 3,000 students who’ve gone through his paid courses on both SEO and generating views on YouTube.

Some really good stuff on this site. The initial feeling is to go on a massive blog reading binge but to be honest, I really want to take in what’s written and listen to some of the podcasts so I just want to say, great job bud 🙂 I’ll be back (as the great Arnold Schwarzenegger says) but only to digest some of the great content.
Thanks, Sam! We’ll be here 💪
Ryan,
You keep getting amazing guests… Brian Dean is no exception.
His “skyscraper technique” is genius for a bunch of reasons, but mainly because it leverages influencers that already have shared great content and it simultaneously keeps out lazy people that aren’t willing to do the work. You can use the same principle for any project; YouTube videos, Quora answers, IG posts, etc.
I personally do the same with my publishing business… write about topics that have established interest, but do it better than anyone else.
Making a blog nowadays is a lot less complex procedure, truly you can have an area and your blog set up in a couple of snaps which is awesome for non-well-informed clients who need to talk their mind and give important content to the world.
Hi Ryan and Brian, thanks for sharing these great tips. The state of SEO and content marketing in 2019 is on a whole different level. There is a whole lot of information out there due to the number of blog posts published daily making it harder for anyone to rank and to start gaining traffic.
Making it crucial for content writers to focus on creating quality content and also promoting it properly to the right audience who are searching for those contents.
