Great questions, Dave! Speaking from my own personal experience, I’ve never had an affiliate reach out to me & ask I take down my own creative I’ve made… I think this is a bit more relevant to things like, don’t change our logo, don’t make it visually look like we endorse you/your business, maybe don’t put an affiliate’s logo on the header image of your blog post/YouTube video, etc. Everything else should be a pretty wide open field and if there’s ever an issue, they’ll reach out to let you know… you won’t get an instant boot 🙂

New affiliate marketer here, thanks for the detailed info! How do you navigate picking ones when many big-name programs have language in their terms that sounds very restrictive in making any creative and content to promote them? And sometimes they state that you have to get approval from them ahead of time on your content. They don’t clearly define what “creative” or “messaging” is, so not sure if they consider blog posts as advertising.

You touch on it as a con of Kinsta. I also see similar language in the affiliate terms for Hostinger, Fiverr, and Bluehost, just to name a few.

To add to my confusion, I also see affiliates marketers of those programs using creative that they clearly made themselves. Maybe they don’t really enforce it or look the other way for high-performing affiliates.
